What happens when interactions in an optical Ising spin-glass simulator are no longer global?
In our new work, we show that by controlling how light propagates through a complex medium, you can adjust how far each spin effectively “feels” the others. Instead of having all spins coupled equally (fully connected), you can dial in shorter-range interactions and even make nearby interaction regions overlap. This adds a new knob for exploring structured spin models with optics.
